The Detroit Virtual Center
For this project I was fortunate to get the chance to work with fellow designer Alex Chopjian. We worked through concepts and ideas together before deciding to work on a virtual museum that could be easily moved from location to location. After completing the branding and gathering the stories, we got to work on the build. Since I have no experience working in Unity, I worked on the physical build while Alex Chopjian worked on the virtual build. How the Virtual Center works is a user enters the curtain and puts on the oculus headset to enter the museum. Inside the museum, the user can look around and move using a controller, and look around just by turning their head. On the outside there is a television displaying whatever the user is looking at, so passersby and observers can see what the user sees. The Key to the physical build was to create a structure that was sturdy, but also easy to transport. To accomplish this, I made sure all parts of the structure were easy to disassemble, and can all fit in a pick-up truck. The whole thing could be disassembled and reassembled in fifteen minutes.
